La Peza to Tocón de Quéntar 13km

      October 4, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Wow, that steep climb out of La Peza sure tested our legs to make sure we were ready for the day ahead!

The nice thing about climbing is that the higher one goes, the better the views. That was the case today.

Once out of La Peza, the walk was on nice forest trails, gravel paths, and sometimes on paths covered with soft pine needles.

After arriving at the Puerto de los Blancares, we had the choice of travelling on to Quéntar, or to walk a short stage to Tocón de Quéntar. Being slow walkers and distance challenged, we took the latter option.

The albergue in Tocón is comfortable, and we're with two Spanish and a French pilgrims. No internet means we had time to chat with the others, and I had more opportunities to practice my Spanish 😊

Stage 12, from La Peza to Tocón de Quentar, 13.2km.
The steep and 'brutal' climb out of La Peza was quickly forgotten. This was a magnificent stage, with sensational views. Beautiful paths, where we even spotted some deer. Practically no road walking, except for the 50 metres at Puerto de Los Blancares.
Unfortunately, the bar in Tocón is closed on Mondays, but the albergue is well equipped.
We were even able to follow the small herd of sheep and goats that brightened up the landscape with their bells.
There is a song in French, which describes a village:
"Village, au fond de la vallée,
      Comme oublié, presque ignoré"
Translating this for Tocón de Quentar, "Village at the bottom of the valley,
As if lost, almost ignored." In any case, ignored by the mobile phone networks ☺️

      Tocón de Quentar to Quentar

      February 15 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

D: It’s difficult to do justice to the beauty of this landscape and the variation we encounter in photos. Very glad that we stopped in Tocon yesterday instead of pushing through to this village. We met another Peregrino (our first) who had walked from La Peza and seemed in good spirits, but said that it would have been better to stop in Tocon. We were able to enjoy the day much more, and anyway needed to go slowly as we recover from dehydration sickness.
